To follow up on last week’s BE@RBRICK post (it looks we’re huge fans around here), I have to say I love this commemorative anniversary edition for Medicom Toy Corp by House Industries. The House team put their typographic magic to work on the design for the logo and posters they made up. More info over here.
Afghanistan: 2012

The Atlantic published some photos from the the U.S. and NATO’s groundwork in Afghanistan over the last few months. These photos remind us of the reality, harsh nature of this situation and innocence of some of the civilians that are being effected every day by all of the political and religious unrest of this conflict. Hopefully they will bring our young brothers sisters, mothers and fathers home safely and the Afghanistan civilians will be able to one day lead lives without the worries of violence on a daily basis.
On February 21, reports surfaced that NATO personnel at Bagram Air Base had burned a number of Korans, which were discovered and saved by locals working at the base. Despite an apology from the Obama administration, and claims by NATO authorities that the burnings had happened inadvertently, violent anti-American demonstrations erupted in several places. Dozens were killed, including four American troops. Two of the Americans were allegedly killed by an Afghan colleague, another in an increasing number of insider attacks. According to the Pentagon, around 70 NATO members have been killed in 42 insider attacks from May 2007 through January 2012. Below are just a few of the 40 photos The Atlantic published as an ongoing monthly series on Afghanistan.
Be@rbrick X Ultravelvet Collection

Last night I ventured down to Robertson to check out the Be@rbrick X Ultravelvet collection at Guy Hepner Gallery with my child hood friend and Commune Architectural monster, Chris.. While I was thoroughly un impressed with the event, and can only spend a few minutes looking at a collection of 30 or so Be@rbricks on a single wall next to some bad knock off art, I was pleased to see my friend, filthy ex-con, and all around 4 square champ, Mr. Rob Heppler.. While enjoying the finer part of the evening, the free drinks, we got to chop it up and talk a bit about art, design and our friend Corys beard..

Art In The Streets causes more art in the streets

Los Angeles Times ran a story talking about the rise in street art in the surrounding areas of the MOCA Art in the Streets exhibition. County sheriffs say that “The exhibit kind of glorifies graffiti” and that the area has seen a conspicuous increase in graffiti in the past few weeks since the exhibition opened.
Two French nationals were caught with buckets of grout and pieces of tile and detained. This was most likely Space Invader because after their release space invader pieces showed up around the city, and the officials are uncertain if the 2 had flown back to Paris.
